09:50 | Gujo — ▼ Gujo Hachiman (Approx. 60 mins, free time)

Gujo Hachiman, located in central Gifu Prefecture, is a charming castle town famous for its pristine waterways and traditional streets. Known as the “Town of Water,” it is blessed with clear rivers such as the Yoshida River flowing through the town, forming a unique and refined water culture.

The streets retain Edo-period wooden townhouses, stone-paved lanes, and historic canal systems. One of its highlights, Sogi-sui Spring, is listed among Japan’s Top 100 Famous Waters and is a must-visit landmark.

Gujo Hachiman Castle, perched on a mountaintop, is the symbol of the town. In winter, the snow-covered castle and surrounding mountains create a breathtaking दृश्य, earning it the nickname “castle in the snow.” From the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of the picturesque town below.

The town is also rich in cultural heritage, including the 400-year-old Gujo Odori dance festival and workshops that produce incredibly realistic food replicas. With its blend of nature, history, and culture, Gujo Hachiman is a beloved destination in central Japan.

12:00 | Takayama — ▼ Hida Takayama (Approx. 120 mins, includes free time for lunch)

Located in northern Gifu, Takayama preserves the atmosphere of a traditional castle town from the Edo period, earning it the nickname “Little Kyoto of Hida.”

Stroll through the historic Sanmachi Suji district, lined with beautifully preserved merchant houses dating back to the Meiji and Taisho eras. Enjoy local specialties such as Hida beef and Takayama ramen, and discover exquisite crafts showcasing the skills of Hida artisans.

Recommended food spots:

  • Ajikura Tengoku
  • Maruaki Hida Takayama
  • Hida Kotte Ushi

15:00 | Shirakawa-go — ▼ Shirakawa-go Gassho Village (Approx. 100 mins, free time)

Shirakawa-go lies deep in the mountains of northern Gifu, surrounded by forests and rivers, offering a classic rural Japanese landscape. The area is known as the “Kingdom of Forests and Streams,” with rice fields and clear rivers weaving through the village.

The most famous area, Ogimachi Village, is the largest of the three UNESCO World Heritage gassho-style villages (along with Ainokura and Suganuma). It features 152 traditional houses.

The name “Shirakawa” comes from the milky-white river formed by mineral-rich snowmelt from Mt. Haku. This natural environment gave rise to the unique gassho-zukuri architecture, with steep thatched roofs resembling hands in prayer—designed to withstand heavy snowfall and support silk farming.

16:40 | Return Journey

Depart for Nagoya.

19:30 | Nagoya — Tour Ends

Arrive and disband at the original meeting point (MINISTOP behind BIC CAMERA, Nagoya Station West Exit).
